Blessing Of The Boats The Cobb, Lyme Regis. Rogation Sunday - when traditionally, the Lyme Regis Lifeboat holds a Blessing of the Boats family service outside the boathouse at The Cobb. The Yeovil May Festival committee was formed in 1982 by a group of local music teachers who wanted to create performance opportunities for their talented students. Derek Williams talk “Hearing Dogs for the Deaf”. This will be an illustrated talk designed to show how dogs are trained to be the “ears” of their deaf owners. A retired Naval man and is now an observer helping people take their Advanced Driving Test. Beaminster Singers Spring Concert Beaminster Singers will be spanning English choral history and also the British Isles. The main work is Baroque - Henry Purcell’s only opera Dido and Aeneas, a tragic story of love ruined by the scheming of evil spirits. It includes one of the loveliest arias in operatic repertoire, When I am Laid in Earth. In the 19th century Gustav Holst wrote his Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda which will be sung by the female voices in the choir accompanied by a harp and from the 20th century comes Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana Dances which conclude the concert. There is also a piece from the 21st Century, a setting for male voices of the negro spiritual Shenandoah arranged by Beaminster Singers tenor and occasional composer Brian Earl, written specially for the concert. So that Scotland will not be forgotten the Beaminster Singers men will be singing a Tramping Song, The Road To The Isles, Wales will be represented by All Through The Night arranged by Hugh Roberton (a Scotsman) and sung in English. The orchestra are all members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
